Fall Trends (The 2016 Version)
I don’t know if I am the only one ready to pack up my jean shorts and tank tops and trade them in for sweaters and leggings, but whether or not you are ready, fall is coming!
Fall, also referred to as sweater weather, is a beautiful time filled with red, yellow, and orange leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, boots and booties, leggings and ripped jeans, and sweaters. For some of us, we have a plethora of options already in our closets for outfit choices.
However, for those who are not the biggest fans of sweater weather, transitioning to this fashion state may pose a challenge (one that no one has time to deal with because of classes and all that jazz). Well, I am here to help. If you need to supply your closet with fall fashion items, read on and maybe I will even convert you into a sweater weather-lover!
Distressed Jeans
Fall is the perfect time for distressed jeans (aka ripped jeans) because it is cool enough to have your legs covered, but warm enough to have parts of your legs exposed. I am a huge fan of both boyfriend jeans and skinny jeans, so obviously use your best judgement when deciding which one to wear based on occasion, time of day, etc.
If you are buying new jeans, buy one dark pair and one light pair. The dark pair will be good for both fall and winter and the light pair will be good for fall, spring and summer!
Suede Skirts
Suede skirts are all the rage these days. Whether you prefer them to be tight, loose, short, or mid-length, you truly cannot go wrong. The best colors to consider when purchasing a suede skirt are burgundy, tan and olive green.
These colors are seen in every top designer’s fall collection and can complement everyone’s skin tone. As it gets chillier, you can even pair your skirt with a pair of tights and a warmer pair of boots! Until then, show off your legs and pair the skirt with a pair of chunky booties!
Jogger Pants
I know this may sound like an odd suggestion at first, but let me clarify that I am not talking about the sweatpants version of joggers. I am talking about the silkier, more high-end version (although I do love the sweatpants version).
The best colors to purchase these pants in are black, navy blue, and olive green. I always try to find a pair that are a little more on the high-rise side because I like to wear the pants with a crop top and leather jacket (or a bomber jacket, which is super trendy these days).
Bomber Jackets
When I first saw the up and coming bomber jackets, it made me think of the movie Grease because they looked extremely retro. However, I have truly grown to love these jackets and feel that they are a necessity to any fall wardrobe.
Similar to the appeal of the leather jacket, bomber jackets are a great addition to just about any going out fall outfit that will ensure your look is trendy and fresh. Whether you buy them oversized or cropped, you truly cannot go wrong!
Body Suits
Body suits are not just a fall trend, but they have truly become a trend for all four of the seasons. The beauty of wearing a body suit is that you no longer have to worry about tucking in pesky long shirts or making sure that your top is perfectly placed.
There are so many styles to choose from when it comes to body suits, but I always recommend having one long-sleeved and one short-sleeved body suit. There are simply cotton body suits, or embellished lace body suits, but either way you can’t go wrong … you just have to choose which body suit is appropriate for a night out with friends versus dinner with your family.
Oversized Sweaters
I love wearing clothing that is about one or two sizes too large for me in the fall and winter months for a variety of reasons. One, it is more comfortable. Two, it makes it easy to layer with tank tops if you get too hot. And three, it is just so cute with leggings and boots.
There are truly no limitations to the types of sweaters you can buy because there are so many different styles, colors, looks, etc. However, it is important to have one simple grey sweater in your closet and one simple black sweater. These two items will go with just about anything and are perfect for both a nice dinner or to wear to class. The simplicity of the two options also allows for major accessories, which is always super fun!
Now, summer, it’s been nice knowing you, but make room for the best season … the GOAT if you will … fall!
